Last Post

My passion project, I would think turned out as a success. I did have a huge obsticle throughout the majoraty of the project, With my sprained ankle which was stopping me from actually skating. The last time that I went skating for this project, I really enjoyed myself and I began to remember why I picked skating for my passion project. I picked skating because it is one of my favourite things to do in the winter and I really feel like I can relax and feel good about myself when I am on the rink. I also feel like when it is a nice day and your skating its a really nice way to connect with God. I feel this because while skating I can get close with nature and close with just God and myself. I am happy I picked skating for my passion project, I would have liked to actually work on my stick handling too but I just didn't really have time for that and I never had my stick with me when I needed it. I also would have liked to go skating a little more but that didn't work because I was looking for a job and I just didn't have time or money to do any extra activity. I love skating, and doing this passion project really reminded me how much I love it and how much I miss it when I can't get out there, or don't have time to go skating. I am sad this project is over and that I did not get the chance to go out skating more, I really wish I hadn't sprained my ankle but I can't do anything to change what has already happened. I took some pictures when I went skating the last time. One of my skates, and the other just of me having a good time.

Healing Quick

With my ankle being sprained I have not been able to go out to skate quite yet, I am planning on going out next week Wednesday though. I have been doing lots of exercises to work on my ankle and increase my strength in that area. I have been doing things like calf raises and spelling out the alphabet with my foot in the air. I am able to walk on it, I have been for a couple weeks now. It has been about 4 weeks and a day since I sprained my ankle and I think I might be strong enough to do physical activity on it, I might wear my tensor bandage with it but only so I feel more sturdy on it. Hopefully when I go out on Wednesday I will be able to skate on it for sure, I know I will not be as strong as I was before but getting an early start on getting back on my ankle will be good for me and hopefully it might speed up the process.

That was not suppose to happen..

So last week thursday , I was playing in the first basketball game of a tournament that my team was in. Last 10 minutes of the game I jumped up and landed on a girls foot, causing me to sprain my ankle and now I am not allowed to play any sports for 4 to 6 weeks. Which is forcing me off my skates for almost half of the winter. I hate how that has happened but I cannot change what happened and all I have to do if really hope it will get better before 4 to 6 weeks. I have just begun to walk on it again very slowly. It does hurt and I really hope I'm not damaging it more but I am just trying to regain strength in my left foot. The timing of this sucks and I'm not sure if I will have to change what I am doing for this project but I will hopefully figure something out that works.

Sunday Skate

This past Sunday I got my skates ready, drove down to Gateway Community Club, and went to the public skating they have there for an hour every Sunday. But when I got there, I went to look at the rink and it was full of little kids that barely knew how to skate, and with what I want to do on the ice (which is time myself while skating around the rink) I can't do that with a bunch of little kids in the way. So sadly that didn't work out, I'm hoping to find some time to go skating soon at Canlan, it is just so far out there and I don't really have gas money or time to do that right now. So hopefully next Sunday it won't be too crowded or the outdoor rinks will open soon.

Stickhandling Drills

I have been looking around for different drills to improve my stick handling. There are a lot of videos for different levels of skills with stick handling. One that I found is for a little more advanced hockey player, but I really liked the drills so I am going to leave a link to the video. I am not a beginner at stick handling but I think I might just start with easier drills then gradually shift into more advanced as sort of a warm up type of thing. An easier drill I will probably start with is in this video. This one can be difficult and it can be easier, I will probably start out with the pucks spread out more and probably not go as fast as this guy was, just to begin with. But after a little while and I get warmed up I will tighten up the pucks and go a little bit faster. Before I do the stick handling drills I will probably do a couple laps around the rink just to warm up my skating.
I've been having trouble finding time to go out to the rink, seeing as the only one that allows stick and puck is pretty far away from where I live. I am hopefully going to have some time next week maybe Wednesday to go either just for a skate or go out to Canlan and work on my stick handling.
